This year, I'm participating in the FIVE by the FIFTH virtual run series..
...and I kicked off 2013 with a New Year's Day Resolution run yesterday morning.
I am so glad this was just a "fun run" because it was about 6 degrees yesterday, and it was New Year's Day. I planned a sevenish mile loop (because I am nuts) and incorporated my 5K resolution run. I admit fully that I did not even try to run fast. I barely looked at my (new!) watch. But I did note my 5K time of 27:05. And I was glad to have gotten out there, even though my face was frozen and peeling by the time I got home. The sacrifices we make for running.
Usually around this time of year I set some goals for the upcoming year. I've been doing fairly well with this, but this year, I'm honestly not feeling up to making goals. I like what I'm doing on the roads and I'm happy with my strength and flexibility additions (pilates and yoga, respectively). I'm not looking to smash any records, though I wouldn't mind if I did. I just want to keep running. I guess that is my only goal. I do plan to run my five-by-the-fifth virtual runs, so maybe that is one as well. But other than that, my goal is to enjoy my running. Sometimes it seems we are constantly looking forward that we forget to notice what we are doing now. Perhaps my resolution is to enjoy the present. Life can be so full of uncertainty, and I don't want to miss out of the blessings of today.

Brr, that is cold! I love your perspective. We don't have to be looking for bigger and better all the time- you're so right that we can miss what is around us right now. Thanks for that reminder!
