Most families have holiday traditions. We have spent the past years crafting and honing our Christmas traditions, tweaking and adjusting as frequently as we would if they were sails on a ship. One of our favorite recent additions is the run to the Christmas tree lot. In New York, we were mere blocks from several tree selling setups, and we generally carried our tree home (we'd also get slightly smaller trees). Now we are a few miles away from the nearest lot, and we must rely on delivery services to get our tree home. So last year we began this tradition, which kicks off our big decorating day.
Last Saturday morning, we excitedly told Baby of our plans. We were going running!! To get our Christmas Tree!! She blinked several times and asked for her milk. Then she toddled off and let us carry on with our ridiculous plan. The lot was actually closer than we thought, so we added on a bit to get our run to three miles. Since it was early, we were one of the few customers around, so we got wonderful service. After looking at about ten trees, we picked one.

This is the lucky chosen one! The tree guy held it up while we snapped a picture.
Then it was time for brunch. We picked the same place we went to last year. Beers were ordered to kick off the celebration. Baby got a fruit/yogurt/granola plate.
And then we jogged home to await the delivery. They were right on schedule, and we were ready to rock with champagne and decorations!

Do you have any holiday running traditions? I wouldn't mind adding more to our collection.

That is an AWESOME tradition - I love it! Hadn't thought of making running-related holiday traditions, but this year I want to start a tradition of going for a long family walk around the UWS with cups of hot cocoa/coffee :)
How fun!! Looks like you found the perfect tree, too. Our only running tradition on a holiday is the Turkey Trot, but so far, that's just me running it and the family coming to watch. :)
